Falling Leaves

by David Knape

When trees release
become dismembered,
by leaves that fall
in cool September

Observing same
our hearts grow tender,
a tear is shed
for times remembered

Leaves are our omens
as they always fall,
each summer shortened
by natural law

They remind us that
we all are flawed,
each life as brief
as leaves in Fall.
