FLIES BY NIGHT

by David Knape

Fliesseem to love, find great delight
in buzzingheads by day or night
howbold they are to have the nerve
toland on plateswhenfood is served

How curious, indeed quite queer
they know just when todisappear
how often when a swatter looms
they somehow know to leave the room

They rub their hands, so nice and neat
as if they're gettingset to eat
whatever dishes we protect
theyget to those that we neglect

They fly right pastusaswe sit
getfiendish pleasure out of it
we may take umbrage as they pass
they disregard us, seem to laugh

How often flies make men discuss
the end of them, in dire disgust
and thoughroutinely they arecussed
flies still make fools of all of us

Outsmarting flies is never quite
soeasy when they are in flight
wepray to God to make it right
and guide ouraim whenlast they light.
