Texas | Columns | "Once Upon A Line"


GOD AND WEST TEXAS

When god was makin' texas
he started in the east
and filled the place with godliness
and beautiful pine trees

It was such a paradise
even he could not believe
this place that he called Texas
would be his masterpiece

Then off he went creatin'
still makin' lots of trees
all the way out to West Texas
he got there eventually

But he was out of business
creation not a breeze
by plantin' all the way across Texas
he just ran out of trees

Now here was his dilemma
no trees were left to please
so he made some thorny cactus
and left some tumbleweeds

The rest he just left barren
as far as eyes can see
that's why there's plains in Texas
why West Texas has no trees!
