She
did something out of the blue
giving to friends or strangers who
might
need a lift, a hand or two
an act of kindness to those due
Those chosen
were the folks who served
who never got the thanks deserved
who had misfortune
come their way
only needed it to go away
Just candy in a candy jar
small gifts of love is what they were
her
thoughts and words went into each
knowing that a heart they'd reach
Ribbons
wrapped them, round and round
and lace was placed upon their crown
and
each was given to endear
each evoked a heartfelt tear
Each jar of candy
really was
an act of kindness, just because
like light from any twinkling
star
her love shone brightly in each jar
Now we can't claim to be so
smart
we only know that kindness works
and knowing that, all I can say
is kindness seems to work both ways.
