    Old Folks, Old Barns

    by David Knape

Old folks, old barns are similar
    aboutthe same to me,
    both get grayer with theirage
    get weathered as can be

Old folks, old barns start leaning
as they start to show their age,
old folks need walkingcanes to walk
    barns,timbersstrongly braced

Old barns lean in toward the floor
    begintocome apart,
    oldpeople, more than likely
    getbroken in their hearts

    Oldfolks, old barns, ordinarily
    have things they keep inside,
    bothhavelovingmemories
    times when theylaughed or cried

    Each have stood the elements
    the toils of earthly strife,
    both share determination
    not to fallor failtheir life

In the end old folks, old barns
    still greet the rising sun,
both of themcan't wait to see
what comes with each new dawn

    Soif you'repassing either one
    as yourace down life's highway,
stop in and spend some time with them
    before theypass away.
