SHELLS

by David Knape

I wish at times I were a snail
could curl up in my curly shell

Within my self then I would dwell
to be protected if I fell

Hardened shells protect those who
have softer hearts and different views

inside themselves are thoughts pursued
sometimes a shell is well to use.
