The Spirit Of Christmas

by David Knape
Spirit of Christmas - Pyracantha

Every once in a while
you come across something
so unusual it makes you stop
and take a breath
to marvel at everyday miracles

like the red Pyracantha bush
that I found growing wild
out in the woods
from a distance it looked
like a decorated Christmas tree
all shiny and bright
its berries twinkling
like ornaments on a tree

it was just waiting to be discovered
its crimson color so deep and glossy
contrasted with the surrounding foliage
of beautiful dark green
made it the perfect symbol of Christmas
all dressed up in its finery
as cheerful as a Santa Clause
waiting for visitors

for anyone who had the curiosity to find it
hidden out in the woods all by itself
it brought the beauty of the season home
and made me realize that Christmas can be
anywhere and anyplace
all we have to do is look and
we will easily find it

The spirit of Christmas is all around
for in our hearts is where it's found.
