WATCHING BUZZARDS

by David Knape

I'm watching Buzzards
through the bedroom window

they soar in and out
of the picture

swooping and turning
so gracefully

enjoying the sunny day
the wind in their faces

peering down
with cold black eyes

a hint of a smile
on their faces

they must consider us
lowly creatures

so anchored to lives
on the ground

they get to play everyday
in the sky

if only WE
could fly.
