El Paisano was done in 1926. The same architects did the Gage Hotel in Marathon and the El Capitan in Van Horn.

El Paisano was the headquarters for the making of the movie Giant in 1955. According to El Paisano management, James Dean fans still show up to view photos and memorabilia from the movie. Although the hotel was HQ, Rock Hudson, James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor found lodging in private residences around town.
