History in a Pecan Shell

This community, one of three named Lebanon (see Lebanon, Collin County, Lebanon, Live Oak County), was named not for the Tennessee town of the same name, nor the country of Lebanon, but a Methodist Church that was organized here in the early 1870s.

In the early 1900s a school was functioning here with an estimated 84 students in attendance. The school was consolidated after WWII when students were transferred to Aquilla.

The Latham Springs Baptist Encampment started in 1923, offering religious retreats and spring through fall camping. Accommodations could handle as many as 600 attendees.

Population figures are unavailable and it is not certain if the community developed anything resembling a business district.

Approximately 8 miles west of Aquilla on CR 1304 to cemetery sign, left across field about 1/2 mile off CR 1304
