    History in a Pecan Shell

According to the Handbook of Texas, the town had an estimated population of 87 people as late as 1986. Today the only sign that it was a community is a vacant one-room school house and a ruin of a former gas station / garage.

    Maryetta Gas Station

"The old gas station you took photos of once belonged to my grandparents. They ran the gas station and the room at the front was the convenient store. Candy, sodas and a few groceries. The rest of the building was their home. I spent some time there in my younger days. I just thought you might want a little history on the old building." - Sherry Rupe, May 26, 2013
