History on a Pinhead

Originally known as Marekville, the town was formed in the early 1900s around a store owned by a Mr. T. T. Sefcik. The thinly populated community was mostly Czech and had only the store and 20 citizens in 1939. By the mid 1960s, the population was reduced by half and eventually fell to zero.
Texas Escapes, in its purpose to preserve historic, endangered and vanishing Texas, asks that anyone wishing to share their local history, stories, and vintage/historic photos of their town, please contact us.
