History on
a Pinhead Founded
just after the Civil War, the community was most likely settled by relocating
Southerners. In 1890 a post office opened under the name of Dixie but closed
just fifteen years later. Growth was somewhere between slow and non-existant.
In the middle of the Great Depression only 25 residents were counted. They did
manage to have a church, store and school, but after the rural post-war exodus
of the late 40s, both store and school had closed. It now bears the dreaded designation
of "dispersed rural community." |
