History in a Pecan Shell

Named for landowner and lawyer Frank Lawson, the community dates to the 1870s. By the mid 1880s, the community had 200 residents with a store, three churches, and three cotton gins. The post office was granted in 1877 but only stayed open until 1907.

The population in the mid 1930s was 115 but by 1960 it had dropped to a mere 50 people. In the late 1960s, Lawsonville became a ghost town, leaving behind only a cemetery.
