History
in a Pecan Shell
The community is said to be founded shortly after the turn of the century
with the arrival of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad. Namesake John R. Trawick
was a resident who donated land so that the community could be platted. In 1902
the community was granted a post office. Two years later, the first school was
built.
Trawick had 100 residents by 1914 and tripled by 1929. But the economy
was based on cotton production and when prices
fell and the boll weevil
arrived, Trawick felt the impact greatly. Trawick had 100 residents in the mid
1930s, where it has remained through the year 2000. |
