Settled sometime
after the Civil War, there isn't a lot of information available on
Waldrop. According to the Handbook of Texas, a school, named after
the teacher (Liles School) was in operation from the1870s through
the 1890s. Around 1900 the school moved 1.5 miles north of the present
Waldrop cemetery. In 1908 the school was moved again. This time the
move was to a farm run by one Dud Waldrop - and the school was then
renamed after him. The school operated until it was consolidated with
the Beckville school.
Waldrop lost most of its population after WWII.
Besides the church and cemetery, the rest of Waldrop consists of scattered
houses. |
