Texas Ghosts

Ghost Soldier
or
Under the Overpass at Alice

Alice

"There is a story of a man dressed in Army fatigues hitchhiking by the overpass (going into Alice from Orange Grove). The story is if you are going through the overpass at midnight and you see the hitch hiker dressed in army fatigues, (he is trying to get home from the war) you better stop and pick him up because if you don't he will appear in your back seat.

I was a Senior from Orange Grove TX. it was the summer of 1984. My boyfriend at the time lived in Alice TX. I was leaving Alice TX to drive back home to Orange Grove. I just happened to look at my watch while I was driving under the overpass, and bam!( it was midnight ) ! Right after I drove under the overpass there he was, the man dressed in Army fatigues! Every hair on the back of my head stood up. Needless to say I did not stop to pick him up. I drove my old blue Maverick 100 miles an hour for about 30 miles to my home and all the way I was looking to see if the army guy was in my back seat. The second I got home I called my boyfriend and told him about the incident. He could not believe what happened. I told my family about what had happened and my niece and nephew wanted me to take them the next night to see the man in army fatigues. I told them there was no way I was going back there at midnight!

Till this day I still will not go under that overpass (at midnight).
