    Stories Of Ammannsville

    by David Knape

Can you hear it in the wind
the voice of time come back again,
here in this place where it stands still
    lay stories of old Ammannsville

For here among these old tombstones
lie the remains of family bones,
who rest in long and solemn rows
and keep the stories of the old

What if they once again could rise
could talk to us to our surprise,
what answers would at last unfold
what stories could at last be told

The history of this lonely place
lies just behind the graveyard gate,
the haunting peal of St.John's bell
    begs questions from old Ammannsville

Oh, how we wish that we could ask
and question those who knew the past,
whose answers sadly lost, weren't saved
are now forever in these graves

This place knows more than it will tell
its secrets lie in those who dwell,
but time is buried, won't reveal
    the stories of old Ammannsville.
