History in a Pecan Shell

The town is reportedly named for José Ramírez, a direct descendant of Rafael Ramírez, the original land grantee (1856).

The population was estimated to be 25 in the mid 1930s. At that time there were two businesses and a school. After WWII, the population was estimated at 40 residents – the same figure given for the 2000 census.
