History
in a Pecan Shell
Texas' "other" Mesquite hasn't been overburdened with mistaken identity for
the Mesquite in Dallas County. The school pictured above came into being circa
1905 and closed in 1952. The Handbook of Texas makes a rather
broad understatement when it states that "Mesquite is located in a relatively
isolated area apart from major highways." It may come as a surprise to many people
that Borden County has a second city. |
Mesquite,
Texas ForumSubject:
Mesquite School Dear TE, In your information about Mesquite, the school
didn't close until 1952. My home place is across the road from the school and
I went to school there through 1952 when they closed all the little schools in
Borden County and we all went to school in Gail.
The last teachers there were Mr. and Mrs. Bass. Can't remember his first name,
but their sons names were George and Roger. I have many fond memories of good
times there. Some of the kids that went to school there, still live in the community.
Thanks very much. - Nancy Telchik Edwards, Mesquite, Texas (Borden County), June
