History on a Pinhead

T. E. Howell was landowner (and namesake) of the town. When the Texas and New Orleans Railroad arrived, they granted a station there. The wetness of the land allowed for rice cultivation and when drainage was installed, there was also some dairy farming. Howellville reportedly had two stores in the 1920s and the population figure of 36 has been in use for seven decades.
