History
in a Pecan Shell
In the late 1880s
Enos and Thomas Seeds owned the Grasslands Ranch here. The community
grew around the ranch headquarters and is Lynn
County’s oldest community.
The embryonic town was granted a post office in 1889 – the county’s
second. The Grasslands Ranch was subdivided into farms by 1900 and
the region became a cotton-based
economy. The population remained small with a reported population
of just 67 residents by 1930.
The town grew to 200 for the 1940 census and remained there for the
next three decades. By 1980 it had declined to 61 where it has remained
through 2000. |
