History in a Pecan Shell

The community was settled by former Georgian Alexander Stephens Hodges and his business partner W. L. Harris in the mid 1880s. Any hopes of growth were dashed when the would-be town was bypassed by the railroad. To add insult to injury, it was later bypassed by the highway system.

The 1940 Census showed a mere 25 residents served by two stores. The 1980 census showed 31 which somehow managed to increase to 259 ten years later. By 2000 it had declined back to 150.
