History in a Pecan Shell

The names of three early settlers (Law, Mason, and Scott) were cobbled together to form the name of the community. The town was granted a post office in 1886 and the population reached 75 in 1888. At that time the community had most essential businesses, including two hotels.

In 1900 the population had grown to 179 but by 1920 the post office had been closed.

Lamasco held on through the Great Depression and WWII but the 1950 census counted only 70 residents served by two businesses.

From the 1980s through 2000 the population was given as thirty-two.
