History in a Pecan Shell

Named for the famous site in Massachusetts, the site became a timber loading spur in 1902 - just after the Orange and Northwestern Railroad completed its tracks to Buna. A post office opened in 1910 but closed five years later. Bunker Hill also had a turpentine camp (which closed in 1918). The Texas Company operated a pumping station here which ceased operations during WWII. An oil well was drilled in 1960, establishing a field, but the deposits were small and didn't amount to much. Population figures are unknown for the community and the most prevalent feature of the site today are fenced pastures.
