History in a Pecan Shell

In the 1870s the community was known as Lapara. The name was changed in 1892 when a post office was opened. The 1914 population is said to have been 50, declining to just 25 during the Great Depression. At its peak, Cadiz had two churches, and a school. Commercial enterprises consisted of a single store and a gas station. The post office closed during WWII and the population shrank to a mere 15 - the figure that has been used to this day.
