Photographer's Note:

Fred Hartman Bridge
The Baytown Tunnel to La Porte was opened in 1953 was removed in 1997 to allow deepening and widening of the Houston Ship Channel and it was replaced by the Fred Hartman Bridge. At 35' diameter by 1,041' length it was the largest tunnel removed without closing the Channel. It was replaced by this innovative eight-lane, twin-tower, cable-stayed Fred Hartman Bridge. - Ken Rudine, October 22, 2007
