"The school was built in 1876 for use as a school by the soldiers at the fort. When the fort was abandoned in 1883, the building became a school for local children and continued in that capacity until 1951.

The building is still used for local meetings. TPWD has done a tremendous job with restoring the fort." - Stephen Taylor, Austin TX
