The only history on Rising Sun comes from John J. Germann's research on the cover below from his Collection of Postmarks of Discontinued Texas Post Offices.

County/Date of Operation:
Shackelford County, 1884-1897; moved to Jones County

First Postmaster: Charles P. Hilts, (Alias Clark Hill), storeowner; located on the Butterfield Overland Stage Route.
