History in a Pecan Shell

Stormville dates from the establishment of the post office in 1878. The name is not a meterological reference, but the surname of "Wash" Storm, the gin and mill owner.

In the mid 1880s the population was a mere 50 and a decade later it had added a blacksmith and nine other businesses - including two doctors.

The post office closed in 1905 - but the school continued - reporting an enrollment of 36 pupils in 1932. No further population figures are available, and although some habitation was evident, residences were scattered.

Today little more than a church remains.

Photographer's Note:
"A couple of abandoned dwellings near Stormville, TX in Wood County. We did not see a Church although Google maps said there was one there somewhere. Could be gone or could be hidden in the trees somewhere."
