History in a Pecan Shell

The town was producing citrus and vegetables before it became a proper community. First residents were partially comprised of transient laborers until the town received a railroad connection in the late 1920s, connecting it to Edinburg and Brownsville.

By 1939 the town had a population of just 40 and it wasn’t until after WWII that Lozano got its own post office. It reached 200 in 1949 and has remained at that level for decades. Bolstered by a colonia that housed over 500 people, Lozano continued to officially report 200 residents for the 1990 census. It has since increased to 324.
