History on
a Pinhead
The town came into
being shortly after the discovery of the Orange oilfield in 1913.
In 1921, when a major well came in, the town applied for a post office.
The post office opened the following year and being a boom town, the
population rose accordingly.
The estimated population was 1,000 in the mid 1930s but declined by
half for the early 1950s. In the 1970s it rebounded to 681 and was
estimated at 800 for 2010. |
