The Handbook of Texas states that "until 1945 students attended Big Square School, North of Dodd."

Another source mentions that a mausoleum is found in a private cemetery on the North side of Dodd. The tomb is that of I. D. Beasley. Mausoleums are pretty much a novelty west of Fort Worth.

Castro County has over 300,000 acres under irrigation, so it doesn't fit the image most people have of West Texas.
