"My brother and I grew up in a rural area of Jones County that is known as Oak Grove. The problem is as we grow older few people even around this area know that Oak Grove was a community with a school and church, now gone.

Could someone share their memories of Oak Grove in pioneer Jones County? I would really appreciate any memories .......... pictures, etc.

Thank you." - Nancy Dixon Bailey, August 10, 2014

The Jones County Oak Grove does not appear on the maps we use and the Handbook of Texas doesn’t have a listing either. Anyone with information, photos or memories of Oak Grove, Texas in Jones County, please write to history@texasescapes.com

Oak Grove District No. 7

Oak Grove, five miles Southeast of Anson is one of the oldest schools in the county. It was founded by Mr. W. H. Abbott in the year eighteen hundred and ninety eight. Before this time Mr. Abbott was in the Phantom Hill district and was twenty miles from the schoolhouse. Rather than transfer to Antelope, the nearest school, he decide to organize a new district....."
