History in a Pecan Shell

The community received a post office in 1908 that stayed open through May of 1917. Thereafter, mail was routed through Shamrock.

Abra was one of 39 school districts in Collingsworth County although it merged with the Samnorwood district in 1934. The 1940 census counted only 10 residents and it eventually was absorbed by Dozier.
