History in a Pecan Shell

The community had once been known as Rolyat (Taylor spelled backwards?) and had a post office under that name. But in 1906 it was renamed after a handsome stand of oak trees.

1914 seems to have been Oak Grove’s peak with a population of 200 reported. But by the mid 1920s, it had declined to a mere 80. The post office was discontinued in the 1950s, but the town lived on, reporting 60 people in 1982. The 2000 census showed a gain to nearly 300 residents.
